In this ongoing Transitions series, I wanted to reflect the way events build, intersect and layer upon each other as we pass through time. Our experiences of life — the yin and yang, negative and positive — cycle into each other. Intuitively created marks travel across the panel’s surface, moving from one half of the divided picture plane to the other. Some marks are additive, layering fresh color on top of the surface, while others are subtractive. The paintings bring together competing forces, answering the chaos of change with a single, unified representation of movement — where painting the “noise” evolves into painting the reverberation left behind. Spanning from 2019 to the present, this series of paintings chronicles a transition within me as much as the work itself.
