The Back In Black series was created in reaction to events occurring in my immediate environment, along with those erupting in the world at large. I experimented by simplifying my mark-making, using more shape and employing a limited palette, primarily black. My goal was to use only mixed black oils, and to explore the range that exists within them and what effect they may have when laid down next to each other. The color traditionally evokes fear, dread and fascination and carries emotional meanings reflecting, among other things, power, elegance, mystery and the unknown. All throughout history black has been considered particularly divine. Click on an image for a larger view and use the arrow to move through the paintings.
