The Rhythm and Repetition series developed during a period when painting became difficult after a personal loss. I struggled to work in the studio, but these rhythmic lines found their own way across the surface. Painting them soothed me and helped me keep going. Over time, the lines began to matter in their own right, with repetition providing both structure and support.
What began as a way to remain connected to the studio has evolved into an ongoing exploration. I continue to investigate the possibilities of a simple recurring line as it moves across fields of color, creating rhythm, variation, and unexpected relationships. Several new works are currently in progress, and I am not yet finished with where this series may lead.
"Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern."
—Alfred North Whitehead (Mathematician)
